Virtual try-on, how it really works

Virtual try-on generates an image of you wearing a garment you do not have on. Recent models produce convincing results for tops, dresses and pants.

What you need to provide

A photo of yourself, front-facing, full body or three-quarter, on a plain background, wearing close-fitting clothes. And a photo of the garment, ideally flat or with the background removed.

What the model does

It detects your silhouette, identifies the area to replace (upper body, lower body or dress), then synthesizes the garment while respecting your posture and the lighting of the photo. Rendering takes between 15 and 40 seconds.

Its limits

Accessories, shoes and complex layering remain difficult. Very fine patterns can be simplified. The result gives a good idea of proportions and colors, not a guarantee on the exact cut.

For a better result

  • One person in the photo.
  • Arms along the body or slightly apart.
  • Natural light, no backlight.
  • Garment clearly visible, without a mannequin if possible.

Start with ten pieces.

That is enough to build your first outfits and see the value. The rest comes on its own.
